Powell, Starr Earn All-Conference Honors
ST. LOUIS, MO — South Dakota senior wide receiver Will Powell and junior linebacker Tyler Starr earned second-team all-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors as announced Monday by the league office.
Powell, a native of Sioux Falls, is an all-conference honoree for the third season. He is USD’s all-time leader in touchdown receptions with 21. He caught 158 passes for 2,521 yards during his four-year career, both of which rank second in program history.
Powell caught 55 passes for 625 yards and scored two touchdowns this season. He finished second in MVFC play in both catches and yards. He posted two, 100-yard receiving efforts during the year.
Starr, a native of Little Rock, Iowa, is earning all-conference honors for the second consecutive season. His 18 collegiate quarterback sacks rank third in program history and all of them have been solos.
Starr was the Coyotes’ third-leading tackler this season with 74 stops in 11 games. He had a career-high 18 tackles against Youngstown State. Starr also had four sacks, forced two fumbles and blocked a kick during the season.
Three Coyotes earned honorable mention status in sophomore offensive tackle Matt Huffer, junior safety Aaron Swift and sophomore wide receiver Terrance Terry.
The poll was conducted by a panel of coaches, sports information directors and members of the media.
