Poker Run for Cancer Camp Saturday
You’ve heard us talk about Camp Bring it On during our Cure Kids Cancer Radiothons. This Saturday (May 11) there’s a Poker Run to help send our kids to camp this summer!
Sign up is from 10am-noon Saturday at Critters Bar in Crooks, SD and 38 Roadhouse (Hwy 38 and East 60th Street North). The runs leave both locations at noon. Cost is $10 per rider, and ALL types of vehicles are welcome!
There will be raffles, (and GREAT raffle prizes like a 42″ TV, concert tickets and MORE) door prizes, and cash prizes awarded starting at 5pm with food at both locations.
Camp Bring It On is an escape for kids fighting cancer. Campers participate in a variety of events offered at traditional camps: arts and crafts, hold talent shows, shoot paintballs at targets, archery, eat meals together, go boating and fishing. There are Camp Bring it On Olympics and nightly s’mores round the campfire. For one week, they get to feel like normal kids. Which, for a child with cancer, is anything but normal.
Camp Bring It On is staffed by trained medical professionals from Sanford Children’s Hospital. Staff include pediatric oncologists, certified pediatric oncology nurses, child life specialists and a host of specially trained volunteers. The staff works tirelessly to ensure each camper has the full camp experience, while still meeting their medical needs.
Location – Joy Ranch
Joy Ranch is a camp and retreat center situated on a quiet lake nestled into the rolling prairie hills located outside Watertown, about 100 miles northwest of Sioux Falls. Guests to Joy Ranch feel like they have stepped back in time to an 1880’s old west town. Horse-drawn buggies drive up main street and head out across the prairie. The lake is fun for fishing, canoeing and swimming. There’s even a kid-friendly saloon called the Thirsty Boot where little cowpokes and old cowboys alike can enjoy a root beer float. The entire facility has been specially-designed to be barrier-free.
