Ostrander, Toivonen Finish Third Round Of NCAA Championships, Both Named All-Region
CONOVER, NC — Augustana‘s Marisa Toivonen shot a one-over-par 72 on Friday afternoon and is in fourth place individually at six-over-par 219 (73-74-72) at the NCAA Championships heading into Saturday’s final round.
Toivonen and Allie Ostrander are competing as individuals at the NCAA Championships at Rock Barn Golf Club in Conover, N.C. Ostrander shot an 84 on Friday and is tied for 36th individually at 19-over-par 232.
Toivonen started her day off with a birdie on the first hole of the day before firing a bogey on hole three but she stayed on par over the final six holes on the front nine to finish at even-par 35 through nine holes. She made par on eight straight holes on the back nine and delivered a bogey on the 18th hole to finish the day at one-over-par 72.
Toivonen is two strokes off the individual lead and is tied for the highest position of any individual player at the NCAA Championships. She is tied at six-over-par 219 with Marie Coors of St. Leo University who is also competing as an individual.
Ostrander entered today’s round tied for eighth overall but shot a 13-over-par 84 this afternoon and enters the final round in a tie for 36th at 19-over-par 232 (76-72-84).
Toivonen and Ostrander were both named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-Central Region team which was announced at the NCAA Championships this afternoon. Ostrander tied for seventh at the Central Region Championships to advance to the national tournament as an individual. Ostrander has competed at the national tournament in four straight seasons for Augustana and placed 27th individually at the NCAA Championships as a sophomore. This is the second time in Ostrander’s career being named to the WGCA All-Central Region team.
Toivonen is competing in her second NCAA Championships after finishing in a tie for 23rd as a freshman last season. She also tied for seventh at the Central Region Championships qualifying for the national tournament as an individual.
The fourth and final round of the NCAA Championships will be played Saturday.
