Representative Kristi Noem is the first of the South Dakota delegation to issue a statement on the twelfth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Noem also reflects on the American Embassy attack in Benghazi, Libya just one year ago.

“Today we honor and remember those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11th. We will never forget the nearly 3,000 Americans who died in New York City, at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, nor will we forget the selfless effort of the brave first responders and everyday heroes who ran into the flames and crumbling buildings.

“This day also marks the one-year anniversary of the attack on the American Embassy in Benghazi, Libya. I hope Americans use today to reflect upon the service offered to our country and the sacrifices made by those who lost their lives in that act of terror, including the life of Ambassador Chris Stevens. In their memory, today I renew our call for answers. I support the formation of a Select Committee to investigate the Benghazi attack. Participants and suspects have been identified but yet there have been no consequences. The families of these victims deserve answers, and so do the American people. The House will continue to hold oversight and investigation hearings while putting pressure on the Administration to take action.

“I ask all South Dakotans to join me in taking a moment today to reflect on those who lost their lives and pray for continued healing for their loved ones.”
