Two people died and a third was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on state Highway 37, about six miles south of Mitchell in Davison County.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says 23-year-old Sara Ann Claggett of Tripp was driving a southbound van that drifted into the northbound lane and collided with a pickup around 4:22pm.

The pickup was driven by 82-year-old Donald Julius Geidel of Dimock.

Both vehicles caught fire and Claggett and Geidel both died in the crash.

Troopers say neither was wearing a seat belt.

The Patrol says Claggett's 2-year-old daughter Lauren was in a child safety seat in the back of the van and witnesses were able to pull her from the vehicle.

She was taken to a Mitchell hospital and then transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital.
