Demolition Experts Bring Down the Roof of the Metrodome. Why Were the Police Called?
Explosives attached to the roof of the Metrodome were detonated Sunday, the latest step in destruction of the Minnesota Vikings football team’s former stadium.
Nestled in the heart of Minneapolis, the 31-year-old stadium’s roof support cables were simultaneously detonated causing the final roof structure to fall to the stadium floor.
The explosion, which occurred against the Minneapolis sunrise between 5:30 am to 8:00 am. Superbowl Sunday, prompted more than one call to police as demolition crews did not alert the public to the early morning explosions.
For comparison, the detonation will have a slightly lower decibel level than the pyrotechnics used following a Vikings touchdown.” – espn.com
On January 18, the roof took about 35 minutes to deflate. See it here in a time-lapse video.
The change to the Minneapolis skyline makes way for the new stadium with steel girder construction scheduled to begin in August.
