Main Street Café Word of the Day: Inspire
As we reach the close of 2013, the mind drifts to the stamp that we can leave on the year that was and transition to the turn of the calendar. The word or theme that strikes today is: inspire.
To inspire means a force outside of yourself is used to move, shape or influence your direction. This can lead to something outstanding or exalting or could lead to destructive behavior. Even Osama bin Laden was inspired by something. One of the archaic definitions of inspire beckons more to a spiritual connotation as a way of breathing life into something.
A poignant way to summarize the effect of positive influences is in a phrase attributed to Eugene Bell, Jr. “ASPIRE to INSPIRE before you EXPIRE.” (emphasis added) Also remember that after you have INSPIRED, to get the job done you will need to PERSPIRE.
