All of the campaign ads, flyers, yard signs, political mailings and robo-calls are coming to an end.

And not a minute too soon.

I guess we get something like this every two years, or four years with the race for the White House.

But it seems like the negativity, maybe outright meanness, reached a new high this year.

Okay, it was probably eight years ago that I was getting anonymous hit-and-run phone calls at home with such useful messages as "Keep East Coast liberals out of Congress!"

Thanks, that really helps. And don't bother to tell me who you are.

All of the "Do Not Call" registrations in the world won't keep phone calls like that away.

So here's to elections and here's to voting--the best thing each of us can do as part of a representative democracy.

And here's to a time without political ads.

Some would say it's the most wonderful time of the year.
