Is Taylor Martinez Done at Nebraska? His Dad Thinks So

There’s been a lot of speculation about the status of injured Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez and his ability to recover from a serious foot injury before his senior season ends with a late season bowl game.

If you believe Martinez’s father, Casey, #3 has taken his final snap in a Cornhusker uniform.

Casey Martinez, in an email to The Associated Press, called the injury, near the ball of the left foot, ‘debilitating’ and believes it may take another 3-4 months to fully heal.

Taylor’s injury happened in week one and after several months of rehab we have discovered that the more he does on it the worse that it gets. Very, very unfortunate location and aggravating injury that can’t be toughed out.

This is a nightmare way to finish your college career, by getting this kind of injury in the first week of the season, which essentially has cost Taylor his whole senior season as well as many team and personal goals.

I hate to speculate and make a bold statement that his college career is over, although, as Bo (Pelini) stated, it doesn’t look good.

Martinez has played in just four games this season, sitting out three games before returning to play at Minnesota October 26th.  He’s missed the last two games against Northwestern and Michigan.

The Corona, California native has been the starter at Nebraska since his freshman year. He holds career school records for total offense, yards passing and touchdown passes.

Asked at his Monday news conference about the possibility of Martinez playing again this season, head coach Bo Pelini said:

I don’t know if the chances are real good.

Nebraska hosts Michigan State Saturday, in a game you can hear live on ESPN 99.1 at 2:30pm.
