If You’ve Eaten Today….Thank A Farmer

With a theme of ‘Agriculture: 365 Sunrises and 7 Billion Mouths to Feed’, Tuesday, March 25th is the 41st anniversary of National Ag Day.  Celebrated in communities and classrooms, National Ag Day is a day to recognize everything that is provided by agriculture.  National Ag Day is part of National Ag Week, which is March 23rd-29th, 2014.23

The Agriculture Council of America believes people should celebrate agriculture because it provides almost everything we eat, drink and even wear every day.  Unfortunately not everyone is aware of all that agriculture provides and the steps needed to get the goods and products to the store shelves and our tables. But by promoting agriculture, the Agriculture Council of America is hoping to get the learning process started in the school systems by teaching and then encouraging students to find careers in the agriculture industry.

The National Ag Day program is working on teaching Americans how food is produced, the safe and affordable products available and the importance of agriculture in the economy.

Each American farmer feeds about 144 people, a number that has increased from 25 people in the 1960′s.  As the population of the world continues to increase, the demand for the high quality food and products from America continues to grow.

So hug your favorite farmer today!  Salute the hard work of all of those involved in agriculture!  They may not hear it enough….but they do make a difference.

Here’s my favorite farmer….my husband Steve!  Watch out, honey….you are getting a big ole’ hug when you get home!
