Huset’s Speedway hosted the World of Outlaws tour Wednesday night for a massive crowd packed in to see NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart and other sprint car drivers from around the country.

Traffic was backed up late in the afternoon and at 6:45pm, the fire marshal informed Huset’s they needed to quit selling tickets as the grandstands were at capacity.

Stewart, who’s known as “Smoke” on the racing circuit, arrived by Brandon police escort to the track at 7:00pm and went directly to his hauler in the infield. Fans were using binoculars to try to catch a glimpse of Stewart before the race.

Things were slow to get started at the race track as officials were handling large crowds and other track preparations. The warm up laps didn’t begin until 9:40p.m.

Stewart burned some fast lap times to begin the night as spectators were on their feet. Impressive, considering he’s never hit a gas pedal in South Dakota during his illustrious career.

Despite qualifying 2nd, the night didn’t go as planned for the 3-time NASCAR champion.

In the main event, not starting until after midnight,  had Tim Kaeding running second with five laps to go when leader Tony Stewart spun while trying to negotiate lapped traffic, moving Kaeding into a lead he would not relinquish for his seventh World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victory of the season.

I gotta say this: Tony Stewart…you are a hell of a race car driver.” – Tim Kaeding

Daryn Pittman finished second with Paul McMahan, Cody Darrah and Rico Abreu rounding out the top five. Craig Hanisch raced past Billy Prouty with just 3 laps remaining and went on to win his 2nd Late Model Street Stock feature event of the season. Prouty held on to second ahead of Eric Moser, Gary Brown, Jr. and Shaun Taylor.

Tony Stewart finished the ‘A’ Feature in 17th place in the 35 lap event and won $800 in prize money.
