Police are investigating an attempted robbery at a hotel in northwest Sioux Falls.

Officer Sam Clemens says a clerk at the Sleep Inn, at 1500 North Kiwanis Avenue, told officers it happened around 3:15am Wednesday.

He says the clerk told police a man walked in, spent some time in the lobby, made a phone call and walked up to her with a gun.

When she saw the gun, the clerk ran to the office and locked the door.

The man left on his own, and management says nothing is believed to have been taken.

The 19-year-old clerk described the would-be robber as a black male, 19 to 25 years old, 5'10" to 6'1" and approximately 160 pounds.

He was wearing gray pants and a red shirt.
