PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Two public hearings will be held this week on a proposed new gaming compact between the state and the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate for the tribe's two casinos in northeast South Dakota.

The hearings will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Roberts County Courthouse in Sisseton and at 2 p.m. in the Watertown Event Center.

The proposed compact would allow the tribe to operate a total of 750 slot machines at its Dakota Sioux Casino near Watertown and its Dakota Connection Casino near Sisseton. The current compact allows only 250 machines.

The bet limit at the casinos also would be increased to $1,000 to match the new limit allowed in Deadwood casinos.

In the proposed compact, the tribe would contribute more money to Roberts and Codington counties.
