Have You Planned Your Funeral Yet?
You may or may not be aware of this, but every October 30th is National “Plan Your Funeral Day.”
Why it’s always observed on October 30th, I have no idea. Maybe it has something to do with Halloween – perhaps there’s some sort of connection between dieing and the afterlife, I don’t know. But, nonetheless, it’s a good reminder that we should all get our “house in order.”
If you’ve ever had to plan a funeral, you know how many decisions there are that have to be made in a short amount of time – more than one could possibly imagine. And, the person making those decisions probably isn’t in the “right frame of mind” while doing so, if you know what I mean.
That’s why I encourage you to take this time to plan out your funeral – or at least give it some thought. Maybe right down a few ideas on paper and let your loved ones know what you would like.
I realize it may sound a bit morbid, but trust me, it’s the best gift you can ever leave your loved ones. The less they have to decide, the more they’ll ultimately thank you.
My folks have actually done just that, planned out their funeral. They have everything decided, from the music to their caskets to their headstone (which they already have purchased and in place at the cemetery).
So, if not today, sometime over the next few weeks, I would encourage you to give it some thought. Start the ball rolling, if you will. You (and your kids) will thank me someday.
