The new numbers are out and it's good news - fewer Americans have bad cholesterol. That according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The most recent figures show one in eight Americans currently has high cholesterol compared to the year 2000 when the number was one in five.

What it all means is that many Americans may now be at lower risk of heart attacks and strokes.

So far, researchers can't pinpoint whether medications, exercise, diet or a combination of those are responsible for the drop - but they do say it's a positive trend.
