Golfer Gets Attacked by Hornets, Jumps in Lake to Escape [VIDEO]

Pablo Larrazabal had a tough day out on the links, and it had nothing to do with bogeys. Instead, he was attacked and repeatedly stung by hornets.

Larrazabal won on the 14th hole at the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur when a swarm of about 30-40 hornets began stinging him. He tried to fight them off but couldn’t get rid of the flying beasts, so he did the next best thing: he jumped in a nearby lake and hid underwater. Larrazabal’s description of the chaos sounds horrifying:

They were three times the size of bees. They were huge, and like 30 or 40 of them started to attack me big-time. I didn’t know what to do. My caddie told me to run, so I start running like a crazy guy, but the hornets were still there, so the other players told me to jump in the lake. I ran to the lake, threw my scorecard down, took off my shoes and jumped in the water. It was the scariest moment of my career, for sure. I’ve never been so scared.

Somehow, Larrazabal was able to finish not just the hole, which he birdied, but also the round, after receiving injections to fight the effects of all those stings. He’s now at 2 under par, and made the cut.

“It looks like I’ll be playing the weekend,” Larrazabal said, “so tomorrow it will be very, very scary to play that hole.”
