Getting That Lost Hour of Sleep Back

We’re all aware (OK, most of us are aware) of the switch from Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time. You know, “Spring forward, fall back.”

I would like to think I’m getting that hour of sleep back that I gave up last spring, but I’m not convinced.

Once the time changes, it gets dark in what seems like mid-afternoon, but I go to work so early that the switch doesn’t make any difference.

I’ve always gotten a kick out of noticing on Sunday morning who forgot to change their clocks, so they’re either an hour late for church or an hour early.

And in college, it always meant an extra hour of, well, whatever you were doing on Saturday night.

I had a boss who would get after us if we said “Daylight Savings Time” instead of “Daylight Saving Time.”

I always remember the woman who called the radio station at the time change when I was working in Huron. These were the days of energy-saving, and the thinking was that if we had Daylight Saving Time all the time, it would somehow save energy(That idea didn’t last).

She wanted it explained to her again–were we going ahead or back? When I told her, she said “:Well, I don’t like it!” I’m not sure what she expected the guy at the radio station to do, but she voiced her opinion, even if it wasn’t going to help even a little.

But by all means, take the advice of fire service officials and check your smoke detectors.

And change the batteries. It doesn’t matter if you think they’re still good–change them anyway.
