PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Authorities believe hunters might be to blame for a fire that burned more than 100 acres of wheat stubble and grass southeast of Fort Pierre.

Fort Pierre Fire Chief Rick Cronin says the Sunday afternoon blaze mostly was on tribal land. No people were hurt and no buildings were threatened, but Cronin said dry conditions, heat and strong winds made it difficult to fight the blaze.

Crews from the Fort Pierre Fire Department, Pierre Rural Fire Department, Presho Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service were on scene for about three hours.
