Sioux Falls Police say hey arrested eight men Thursday afternoon and evening in what Chief Doug Barthel is calling a "reverse prostitution sting."

And Barthel says more such efforts could happen in the future.

Barthel says the department placed two fictitious ads on an internet site, advertising women for escort services, and he says police were disappointed with the large number of responses to the ads.

He says potential "customers" responded by texting, and eight encounters were arranged.

The chief says when the would-be customers made propositions to buy sex for money from the undercover female officers, they were arrested and charged with hiring for sexual activity. Three of the men were charged with two counts, as Barthel says they tried to purchase sex with two females at once.

Barthel identified the eight men as:

Michael Stang, 61 year old St. Joseph, MN resident (2 counts)
Samuel Wilson, 38 year old Sioux Falls resident (2 counts)
Glen Hurst, 56 year old Sioux Falls resident (2 counts)
Nicholas Bergman, 26 year old Sioux Falls resident
Jasper Williams, 37 year old Centerville, SD resident
Charles Wathier, 45 year old Sioux Falls resident
Roy Knudson, 63 year old Sioux Falls resident
Elfren Soltero-Romero, 29 year old Sioux Falls resident

Barthel says with similar stings planned in the future, "I would advise anyone considering soliciting sex for money to think twice. Your next encounter could be with an undercover police officer."
