Approximately 18.8 million American adults, or about 9.5 percent of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year, have a depressive disorder.  Author and motivational speaker Carol Kivler knows that for a fact!

First diagnosed with a mental illness in 1990, Carol suffers from periodic acute bouts of medication-resistent depression, responsive only to ECT {electroconvulsive therapy}.  Since 1990, Carol has experienced both long periods of recovery and four acute episodes of depression, each time requiring hospitalization and additional ECT treatments.  For Carol, ECT has become her "ladder out of the depression pit" for which she is truly grateful.

In an exclusive interview with KSOO, Carol Kivler shares her story in hopes it will benefit individuals who are battling depression.
