Coyotes Take One Of Three To Begin Summit Play
Elsasser earned both wins in the series for the Mavericks, limiting USD to five hits and two runs in 14 innings.
Coyote freshman Rachel Cue allowed four hits, but was handed her second 3-1 loss to Elsasser in as many days. Campbell Ditto homered off Cue in the bottom of the first. Sydney Hames had a two-run double in the third inning that made it 3-0.
Morgan Hancock had the Coyotes’ lone hit – a single to right field with two outs in the seventh. Hancock had a team-high four hits in the three-game series. South Dakota scored an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning that made it 3-1.
Twelve of USD’s 17 hits in the series came in its 15-6 victory against Omaha in the second game of the series Friday. Allie Daly hit two-run homers in both the third and fourth innings and drove in five runs in all. Yvon Minogue was 2-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.
South Dakota stands at 18-12 on the season. The Coyotes return to the field Thursday for a doubleheader against Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.
