ORLANDO, FL — South Dakota scored four runs on six hits in the fifth inning of a 4-2 win against Long Island Sunday at a tournament hosted by Central Florida. The Coyotes outscored their competition 14-7 in finishing 3-0 during their opening weekend.

Yvon Minogue and Allie Daly opened the fifth with back-to-back doubles. Morgan Hancock gave the Coyotes a 2-1 lead with an RBI single up the middle that scored Daly. Katie Cochran made it 4-1 later in the inning with a one-out, two-run single.

Katie Dinning was 3-for-4 in the contest. Minogue finished 1-for-2 with two walks. She hit safely in all three games in Orlando and reached base nine times in 11 plate appearances.

Starting pitcher Madison Frain worked into the seventh inning to pick up her second win in as many starts. Long Island (1-3) managed four singles off Frain – all in the first two innings. The Blackbirds scored an unearned run in the second inning and added a second run in its final at bat without recording a hit.

Frain and freshman Rachel Cue combined to throw 22 innings in three games in Orlando. They allowed five earned runs and three extra base hits – all doubles – while striking out nine. Opponents batted .238 against them.

South Dakota next competes at a three-day tournament hosted by San Diego Statestarting Friday.
