Comic-Con 2013: ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Goes Viral

In anticipation of this afternoon’s ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes‘ panel at Comic-Con 2013, Twentieth Century Fox has revealed a new viral (pun intended) website for the film, which warns against the dangers of the Simian Flu — a disease that, in the fictional world of the ‘Apes’ films, has now spread to 8.7 million people, making it pretty easy for those apes to take over the world.

If you visit SimianFlu.com, you’ll find a fake site “created” by OPHA, the Office of Public Health and Awareness. The video above serves as a PSA of sorts to warn of the dangers of Simian Flu, which kills nine out of 10 people who contract the illness. If you’ll recall from ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes,’ the same chemical used to make Caesar smarter turned out to be fatal to humans, and in ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,’ we assume we’ll see how that chemical became a virus that has spread and begun killing humans, allowing for the domination of Caesar and his primate cohorts.

‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ is directed by Matt Reeves and stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Judy Greer, and Kodi Smit-McPhee, and hits theaters on July 18, 2014. Check back today for more details in our coverage of the ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ panel.
