Brock Huard on the Cleveland Browns Selecting Johnny Manziel

ESPN’s Brock Huard joined Jeff Thurn on Friday’s edition of Overtime.

Huard (@BrockESPN) is a college football analyst and radio host for 710 ESPN Seattle. He played in the NFL for three seasons in 2000 and 2001 with Seattle and 2003 with Indianapolis.

Thurn asks Huard about Cleveland selecting Johnny Manziel with No. 22, and if it was a good decision. Previously the Browns took Brady Quinn and Brandon Weeden at No. 22.

“I honesty think that this is the worst place that Johnny could have gone. I want to see Johnny have success in the NFL. I don’t think there’s anybody or any former quarterback that they wish an ill-will on anybody. But as far as fit goes, I don’t know if there could be a worse fit. Oakland, maybe? But organizational inconsistency. A first-time head coach, a fan base, that is dying for a savior to come. News coming down that Josh Gordon, their stud receiver, maybe suspended a year. Very little help around him, brutal division, brutal weather, brutal playing conditions, and he is going to be asked to carry the load. I really wish he could have gone somewhere like Ben Roethlisberger did, like Russell Wilson did, like Colin Kaepernick did. Where he can come in with an established team, defense, and instead of making 40 plays a game, make 15 plays a game. But that’s not going to be the case. He is going to be asked to be the savior and do everything. I think that’s unfortunate for him and his career.”

Cleveland also took Justin Gilbert at No. 8 in the first round.
