Black Monday For NFL Coaches, GM’s

Sunday brought post-season dreams to Minnesota and Washington while Monday is bringing pink slips for many head coaches and general managers around the National Football League.

After Philadelphia head coach Andy Reid put all his eggs in the Michael Vick basket a couple years back, you knew today would be inevitable as Vick faltered badly and Reid is out after 14 mostly successful years as the Eagles coach.

The Chicago Bears had another second half collapse after starting the year 7-1, but missing the post-season, so after nine seasons, head coach Lovie Smith was fired this morning.

In New York, Jets head coach Rex Ryan got a vote of confidence, but his boss, general manager Mike Tannenbaum was relieved of his duties.

In a move that was seasons overdue, the under-performing San Diego Chargers finally fired both head coach Norv Turner and GM AJ Smith.

Buffalo canned head coach Chan Gailey.

Cleveland dumped both head coach Pat Shurmur and GM Tom Heckert after the team went 9-23 over the past two seasons.

Jacksonville fired GM Gene Smith while they decide the coach’s fate.

Likewise, Tennessee is still deciding coach Mike Munchak’s fate while they search for a GM.

Kansas City is expected to fire head coach Romeo Crennel after a very disappointing 2-14 campaign that started with play-off hopes and ends with the #1 draft pick in the 2013 draft.

That may not be the end either as rumors are swirling around Dallas head coach Jason Garrett has been on the hot seat all season (even when they were playing well) and after losing to Washington last night and missing the play-offs again, a change may be in order.

Carolina head coach Ron Rivera won five games down the stretch which may save his job, but remains in limbo while their GM search continues.
