BBQ On The 4th Of July

Grilling
WikiMedia

For me, the smell of charcoal heating on the grill makes it the 4th of July. Even if it’s a cold November day where we haven’t had snow yet and I’m trying to get one last good grilling in, the aroma takes me to the heart of Summer when we celebrate our country’s birthday.

It wasn’t just the nation’s birthday that we celebrated on July 4th, it was my dad’s birthday also. My family only got together and grilled one time each year, and it was on this day.

So that’s why the fire of the grill takes me back to great memories. It’s been proven that our sense of smell can trigger our memory and in turn our mood immensely.

And that is probably why I grill several time a week. That, plus it just tastes so good.

So what will you grill this 4th of July? According to the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association, the 4th of July is the biggest barbeque day of the year.

Our favorite food to grill in the U.S. is burgers, followed by steak, chicken and hot dogs. Corn is our favorite side dish, with other veggies and potatoes in close pursuit.

And when it comes to which sauce is the boss, Americans prefer hickory flavored, followed by mesquite and honey.

For me, it’s going to be a T-bone. My sauce will be my favorite choice. The BBQ sauce made right here in South Dakota is available in our local grocery stores. It’s called Ol’ West Barbecue Sauce.

Go ahead and get that grill hot. And the right time to get excited is when you here the sizzle!
