Award Being Named After Longtime Weather Observer
This Sunday, 101 year old Richard Hendrickson, a farmer from Long Island, New York, will be honored by the National Weather Service for his 84 years of being a volunteer weather observer. The organization’s “National Service Award” will be named after him.
According to Todd Heitkamp, Meteorologist with the Sioux Falls National Weather Service office, volunteer weather observers play a vital role in what they do at the Weather Service.
