Archives Show Hillary Clinton OK’D Tax Breaks for Nonprofits

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Documents show that as first lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton endorsed planned tax breaks for private foundations and wealthy donors at the same time the William J. Clinton Foundation was soliciting donations for her husband’s presidential library.

The blurred lines between the Clinton administration’s proposal and the library fundraising foreshadowed the potential ethics concerns flaring around the Clintons’ courting of corporate and foreign donors for their family charity. Those questions have mounted during her campaign for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.

White House documents in the Clinton Library reviewed by The Associated Press show Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton were kept apprised of the proposals.

Bill Clinton’s spokesmen said the tax plan was not intended to aid donations to the Clinton Foundation and was backed by officials and experts.
