Aberdeen Is Home to South Dakota’s Best ‘Thrill’ Ride (If You Can Call it That)
We are a bit roller coaster challenged in South Dakota. While other states boast of rides that go 95 miles-per-hour (North Carolina), drop you at a 90 degree angle (Pennsylvania), have a 10-story barrel-roll drop (Kentucky), go 0-to-60 in 3.5 seconds (Indiana), or send you through a 540-degree helix (Georgia), we're reduced to bragging about a ride that reaches the maximum speed of a semi-vigorous bicycle ride.
The magazine tries to hype the experience by calling it:
...a gravity-drop family coaster for the younger set."
Translation: It's a kids ride.
Storybook Land's website describes the ride this way:
...this coaster dips, turns and flies 20 feet in the air along the track at speeds up to 20 miles per hour.
Hardly the stuff that is going to make adults question their sanity when they strap themselves in. Don't get me wrong - it sounds like a lot of fun for the kids.
Now I know that sometimes South Dakota gets unfairly overlooked, but this may be one time where it would have been okay if they had just left us off the list.
