‘A.C.O.D.’ Trailer: Adam Scott Needs Help With His Parents

Culturally, it feels like divorce became more of a standard practice when the baby boomers started having kids. That many people grew up with their parents divorced is the impetus for the film ‘A.C.O.D.,’ which focuses on Adam Scott‘s character, who — as the initials note — is an adult child of divorce. And what that means is that he has to parent his parents.

His mother and father are played by Catherine O’Hara and Richard Jenkins, while he’s got a younger brother (Clark Duke) who’s about to get married. From the trailer it looks like Scott has to bring the family together, while dealing with his trust issues. It turns out the person he thought was his therapist (Jane Lynch) wrote a book about him, and so he uses her work to understand himself, and also — it seems — to meet a woman (Jessica Alba).

The film played Sundance where it was well received, though many may be drawn to the film to see Scott act against his ‘Parks and Rec‘ co-star Amy Poehler, who plays his stepmother. There’s no denying it’s a great cast, so hopefully the film delivers.

‘ A.C.O.D.’ opens in theaters on October 4.  Here’s the film’s synopsis:

Carter is a seemingly well-adjusted Adult Child of Divorce. Having survived the madness of his parents’ divorce, Carter now has a successful career and supportive girlfriend. But when his younger brother gets engaged, Carter is forced to reunite his bitterly divorced parents and their new spouses for the wedding, causing the chaos of his childhood to return including his wacky therapist.
