28 Years On the Radio

October 15, 1984 I debuted as the “new guy” in Sioux Falls radio – hard to believe it’s been 28 years.
I’m often asked if there’s a specific “blunder” that really stands out. For me, it has to be early on, when I was working the overnight shift one weekend.
I got a note to wish an elderly listener a happy birthday. So, I go on the air and say, “Hey, Charlotte, congratulations on a ripe old age…111…wow.”
It’s what happened during the song that still haunts me. After getting a call, I had to go back on the air and say, “I need to apologize. I got it wrong. That last song was for Charlotte – who’s ill.”
